And they’re off and swimming for victory! Stingrays Swim Team is open to members and nonmembers, from ages 4 to 18. All are welcome to try out. Stingrays swim in the competitive Akron area Metropolitan League, and besides competition, the team enjoys pool parties, a pancake breakfast and an awards banquet each year.

Sometimes, with all the fuss on the cute little baby things, the more important stuff takes the backseat – stuff like making their home a childproof one for the safety and protection of their young ones. If you’re on the way to or already have kids, you don’t have to look far to get great home improvement tips on this matter. This article provides some smart and easy home improvement tips for childproofing your home.

Childproofing your home virtually means adapting a variety of systems that, together, create an environment that is child-friendly, as well as safe for everyone who resides in your home. When your young ones are still enjoying their early childhood or are toddlers, your main duty is to be vigilant in keeping them from touching, grabbing, and tasting and chewing dangerous items and elements around the house. You also have to be careful as kids in this stage are prone to climb, jump, or topple over without a care in the world, leading to accidents. The home improvement tips you should employ must be focused on these potential problems.

For one, you should install toddler gates at doorways, most especially at the top and bottom of stairways. Keep the front door closed at all times whenever you and your young ones are inside the house; toddlers are known to be quick – they could be right outside into the street with one blink of an eye. You should also enclose open deck railings with properly welded wire mesh. You can cut it with tin snips, nail or staple it in place, and file off sharp ends afterwards. If you have interior railings, acrylic sheets would do the trick. These home improvement tips can help keep your little ones safe while they walk around the house.

Entrances and exits aren’t the only things that should be locked properly. Toddlers are likely to touch outlets. In order to keep them away from harm, specifically accidental shock, replace reachable outlet covers with protective covers. You can put plastic outlet plugs to cover unused outlets. All around the house, sharp furniture, as well as edges, should be padded with foam tape.

Your outdoors should just be as protected as your indoors. If you have a swimming pool and other potential danger zones for small children, it would be best to halve these areas fenced. Outdoor play equipment should also be checked. If there are protruding bolts, the same should be cut off. Hard swing seats should be replaced with sturdy yet soft material, and slide steps should be placed with non-slip coating. So you’ve finally made the choice to put in a swimming pool. Now comes the enjoyable part; choosing the perfect style. With innovations in pool production and design recently, your choices are almost limitless, and the multitudes of options to enhance your pool are similarly abundant.

Initially, you have to establish what you wish for a pool? Will you be using it for leisure, playtime or principally to keep fit? You’ll also want to decide which style work best for your house and whether it conforms to your home’s exterior. Choosing a pool design that conforms to your home’s style is vital. A well-designed pool will add enormous value to your household investment, and will offer years of pleasure to you and your family. Make your choice carefully and take the time to explore all the options available. Check with different pool builders before making any decision, and make sure whatever style you decide on falls within your budget.

One of the newest and possibly grandest styles you’ll find is called the negative-edge pool. In realty, the pool does have all of its edges; some are just masked in a water collection reservoir below the pool and concealed from view. The water that pours into this reservoir is then re-circulated into the main level through the pool’s normal filtration system. Without a doubt, it’s one of the most luxurious looking designs offered today, but the illusion can only be accomplished if the main section of the pool is raised above the reservoir portion of the pool. If there’s any reservation as to whether a negative-edge pool would function in your backyard, consult a qualified pool construction company.

Here it is summer again and you have a problem. It is not that you do not have anywhere to swim but rather that your swimming pool is in fact leaking. Let’s face it, this is not something fun to deal with and the leak probably could not have started at a worse time for you. As if you do not have a million other things to tend to, now you have a pool that is leaking water. This is probably the last thing you wanted to have on your ever growing “to do list”.

You can do one of three things. You can allow the leak to continue which will raise your water bill and cost you more when the leak gets worse. You can completely shut down your pool and throw away all of that money you have invested into it up to this point. Or you can fix the leak and enjoy your pool the way it was meant to be enjoyed. The best option is the last option. Why waste your summer and your money when something such as a leak can easily be fixed?

The thing is though many people right away think that the pool leak is not something that can be fixed. This is certainly not the case though. Many people handle the leak on their own and have their pool up and running in no time at all but the situation could be worse then you think. The first thing you need to do though is to figure out where the leak is coming from. It could be the plumbing for the swimming pool that is leaking or it could be the shell of the pool itself that is leaking.

To find the leak, simply start paying attention to the ground beneath your feet. Is there a lot of extra water around the swimming pool plumbing? If so, then the plumbing is the problem. If the extra water is elsewhere then you are most likely looking at the leak coming from the shell. Once you have determined exactly where the leak in the swimming pool is coming from, you can then decide which is the best course of action for you. It is not until you find exactly where the leak is coming from that you will be able to know how bad the damage is.

Just make sure that you are tending to this situation sooner rather then later or else it could become a lot worse. The leak could get bigger and bigger until your entire back yard is a flood zone. If you have neighbors close by this could cause damage to their property, which you would have to pay for. Also, there does come a point in time where the damage to the pool has gone past the point of being able to be fixed and it will simply need replaced. So make sure that you are taking action as soon as you notice a leak and you will be able to spend the rest of your summer days relaxing in the pool.
