So you and your family and friends decided on a camping trip. You have wanted to plan a camping trip for years but never was able to until now. You are planning to hike deep into the woods and reside next to that beautiful lake. But now that you think of it you don’t know much about camping and now you need a few tips for camping.
When you are camping with your family and friends make sure you pack enough clothing to last you during your camping trip. If you have kids, make sure you pack them extra clothes because kids tend to get dirty and wet. Normally on camping trips out in the woods you don’t have a washing machine with you so bring a special cloth bag to put your dirty laundry in and make sure you wash them as soon as you get home.
When going camping make sure you plan out your food and bring enough food for the kids to snack on because kids really like to have snacks, especially if they will be swimming. Kids tend to get hungry right after swimming. Also, make sure you pack plenty of juice and or water for your camping trip; you do not want to get stranded in the woods with nothing to drink.
Another thing you should be aware of and make your kids aware of is the type of poisonous plants that may be in the area where you will be camping, this include berries, poison ivy, etc. You also will want to bring along a medical pack just in case something does arise. In this medical pack you will want to have band-aids, an antibiotic for cuts and scrapes, itch creams, etc. You can never pack too much when it comes to your medical case because you really don’t know what situation will arise.
All in your entire entire camping trip should be fun and exciting for everyone that is going with you. This fish is widely known as the hardest fighting fish, pound for pound, that swims in freshwater, and for good reason. If you’ve never had the pleasure of hooking into a three to five pound Smallmouth Bass, put it on the top of your list. Hooking into a Smallmouth this size is as much fun as can be had with your clothes on. For the purposes of this article I’m going to discuss some fishing tips that are helpful when fishing for Smallmouth Bass in the moving water of rivers and streams.
Prior to embarking on your smallmouth fishing expedition it’s better that you first understand their characteristics, smallmouth bass are customarily bronze to brownish green in color. It has dark vertical bars on the sides. Unlike the largemouth, the upper jaw of a smallmouth does not just extend beyond the rear margin of its eye. The eye of the smallmouth is reddish in color. It contains 13 to 15 rays of soft dorsal fin. It’s length extent from 12 to 22 inches. And it usually weights 8 ounces to 7 pounds.
Below are some guidelines on how to get significant catch of the smallmouth bass:
* Smallmouth are better caught in the rock edge that drops off first from about 6 to 12 feet.
* Suppose you are fishing for the smallmouth in northeast, especially in Maryland, you’ll discover that smallmouth does not stick much to cover their presence. This is apparent in some of the relaxed water reservoir. Smallmouth relates more to an abrupt change in depth when they seek cover.
* if you trap a smallmouth that’s above four to five pounds, try to swim along with them and make your presence not noticeable.
The second tip I have for fishing for Smallmouth bass in the flowing water of a river or stream is to always present your bait in a natural manner. a) The Stonefly Bugger – size 6
b) The Bead Head Wooly Bugger- size 6
c) The Sneaky Pete – Size 4
d) The Clouser Minnow – size 6
Smallmouth tend to be more active I cold water, that makes early spring the perfect time for fishing.The way to set up your rig is this: begin by grabbing the end of your line and attaching a small barrel swivel (size 10 or 12). Now attach a pre-tied set of gang hooks to the opposite end of the barrel swivel. The goal is to have your offering bounce off the bottom, as it flows naturally with the current, so add a couple of split shot sinkers to your line above your barrel swivel for weight. The number of split shot will vary with the current flow, so this is a judgment call. Experimentation is the key to getting the proper amount of weight. Once the proper number of split shot is achieved, your offering will “bounce” along the bottom as it flows downstream. Telling the difference between bottom and a bite is easy with a little practice. The last thing you need to do is add a live worm to your set of gang hooks (if you happen to be using night crawlers, simply pinch them in ).
If you use the rig explained above, you will begin catching more Smallmouth Bass. These fishing tips aren’t at all complicated, as a matter of fact they’re simple, but that doesn’t make them any less effective. I’ve been fishing for Smallmouth Bass using both of these tips for many years with almost amazing success. Obviously many people think so that is why the pools are always packed in the evenings and weekends. Well, I must first declare that I am not anti-swimming. In fact, I swim regularly. However when I researched materials for my articles, I came across some negative aspects of swimming.
Swimming is considered as one of the best exercises to lose weight and also to build muscles. Not surprising because when you swim, all your major muscles are called into action. It also has an aerobic effect, so heart and lungs get a good workout too.
A research published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine shows that in the absence of a controlled diet, swimming has little or no effect on weight loss.
Professor Grant Gwinup conducted an experiment with the following results.
* Test subjects following a walking program lost 17 pounds of weight during the three-month study.
* Those following the cycling program lost 19 pounds of weight.
* However, subjects following the swimming program actually gained 5 pounds.
Astonishing isn’t it? I was surprised too when I first read the report.
Professor Gwinup then assumes that swimming in cold water stimulates the appetite to increase caloric consumption.
Professor Louise Burke, Head of Nutrition at the Australian Institute of Sport, pointed out that competitive swimmers typically have body fat levels that are higher than those of runners or cyclists who expend a similar amount of energy when they train.
Many people feel hungry after swimming and may simply replace all the calories they’ve burned with a large meal after their swim.
“Some research suggests that this is due to the cool temperatures in which swimmers train. By contrast, runners and cyclists usually experience an increase in body temperature during training, which may serve to suppress appetite – at least in the short term” said Professor Burke.
Professor Burke further said that competitive swimmers are less active outside their training sessions. They are so tired from the hours spent training that they sleep, sit or otherwise avoid any real physical activity outside their sessions.
Now on building muscles, because most of the work your body does when swimming involves positive muscle actions, like pushing up a bench press, there is no negative action like lowering the weights during a bench press at all. We know that the negative move during weight training is important to build muscles and burn fat.
Any exercise is better than being sedentary. Sure go ahead and swim so that you can have various forms of exercises to beat the boredom of doing the same things all the time. Just make sure that you don’t eat more or become more sedentary after your swim.

Swimming is a very attractive form of exercise. While all forms of exercise have strengths and weaknesses, swimming is a good aerobic, low impact exercise. Swimming generally has longer sessions than other forms of exercise, and requires constant muscle action. This makes swimming an excellent way to improve wind capacity and endurance. Swimming involves the entire body, and thus uses a great deal of muscle as a percentage of the body’s total supply. This also increases the efficiency of the exercise both as a means to burn calories and as an additional reason for the wind to benefit from this form of exercise.
The water helps support the body, as most people float naturally. This reduces the stress on hips and knees, and makes swimming especially attractive for elderly people, some who need rehabilitation after injuries, and in warm water, those with arthritis. Swimming is also a very good place to start for overweight people who desire to improve their physical conditioning. Another group often told to use swimming based exercise is pregnant women.
Swimming does not provide assistance for those elderly people trying to combat osteoporosis. Swimming provides less aid in reducing weight by burning more calories than the length of exercise would suggest, and swimming provides more of a workout for the upper body than the legs. It is possible to provide a limited anaerobic workout in sprint work, though this mainly works the arms. In fact, excessive leg muscles are considered a disadvantage in competitive swimming as they consume oxygen the rest of the body could otherwise use.

My mens track team was just cut, claiming Title IX non-compliance and what seems to me as poor financial responsibilty as the reasoning, yet the school keeps dumping money into the football program, while 3 mens sports have just been cut, M. indoor and outdoor track, M. swimming and the W. lacross team. Why is it that a male has to play football or basketball to be a supported student athlete in the NCAA? What can be done so that these other great sports don’t keep getting cut!? it’s frustrating feeling helpless. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
