Next Tuesday I have a swimming race at school. I don’t swim regulary and am not especially strong or fast. Could someone give me any tips? I know how to swim well as I was in a team when I was younger, I just can’t swim quickly!! Thanks
1. Make sure you eat breakfast
2. Do NOT swim after you ate 1 hour before.
3. Do NOT eat in 3 hours after you swam.
4. Wear a swimming cap helps.
5. Breathe less.
4 Don’t eat right before swimming or right after swimming. Give yourself some time.
5 Try your hardest
6 Try holding your breathe when you have spare time and hold it for as long as you can. Then breathe obviously and then do it again. You can train your lungs to breathe less while swimming.
7 TRY YOUR HARDEST
and last but not least,
8 Practice, Practice, Practice
Hope you have fun and get a good place. Don’t be disapointed if you don’t just make sure you have fun and that is all that matters! GOOD LUCK! Hope I helped.
No quick tips. Swimming is not like doing SAT exams. No tricks like that. Practice makes perfect. Join a team, get proper training is the only way to go. But if you really know what you are doing in the water, just keep swimming, you will learn more as you swim more.
Just be confident, and know you can do it. Trust yourself. Try not to take many breaths, and keep your head down. Do qick starts and turns, and you will do fine. MAke sure to kick UNDERWATER and move your arms FAST. Dont be discouraged if you do bad, because its just your first time. I know you will do great! Oh and eat god portiens, like spaghetti or tacos. energy bars are good. Oh and dont drink gatorade, I heard its high in sugar.
Practice makes perfect. I agree to the guy who said that there are no tricks to swimming. You should practice, practice and practice to go faster. That’s the only way. But to help you anyway:
You could wear a complete attire: Swimsuit, swimcap and goggles
Shave (hairs on the body will slow you down, that’s why the swip cap is important too.)
If you have a dive start, make sure to dive into the pool the farthest you can so you can swim less.
Same goes for a glide start.
Stretch before swimming. It prevents cramps which you wouldn’t want in the middle of the race.
When you take breaths, make sure you don’t take too much time in doing it. Half a second only, or less. Try it for a little before the actual competition.
Cup your fingers while swimming. It helps you push much more water and makes you go faster.
GIVE YOUR ALL. On the race. It’s a one time, big time event. You only have ONE chance to compete. Give a hundred and ten percent! Unlike in sprints when you train, you still have a hundred more laps to do after. Sprinting during practices are like, only 90% so technically you don’t sprint in the competition. You SUPER SPRINT. B-)
Our coach told us that once you see the end of the pool, people tend to go slower because their body reacts to it. It slows down because.. because you’re relieved it’s over or something. You should train your body not to do that. Instead of slowing down, that’s when you should give your ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY. Give it your ALL. ALL OUT.
>.> That’s about as much advice I can give.
Goodluck on your race! Hope I helped even a little. )
for most of the strokes probably except breastroke, you should try to reach with your arms and it really does give you a greater pull.
also a great dive kills time too, try to beat everyone off the blocks when you hear that buzzer! after you hit the water don’t go up right away do some dolphin kicks or the breastroke pulldown before you start and NEVER breathe on the first stroke
also don’t breathe from the flags in when finishing the race
freestyle – reach, fast flip turn (dont breathe off the first stroke of wall), breathe every third stroke or less, small fast kicks, most of the work comes from the arms
backstroke – most of the work comes from the arms, reach/roll your shoulders, backstroke flip turn
breastroke – most of the work comes from the kick, whip your legs around and dont kick to wide apart, glide for 1-2 seconds, dont rush through the breastroke pulldown everytime you leave the wall, with the arms, dont bring them too far back, just to your breasts
butterfly – keep the rhythem, reach with your arms, breath every other or less, successful dolphin kick your butt comes almost up and out of water
Always swimming cap on your head, that helps increase your speed.
1. Make sure you eat breakfast
2. Do NOT swim after you ate 1 hour before.
3. Do NOT eat in 3 hours after you swam.
4. Wear a swimming cap helps.
5. Breathe less.
if you’re gonna pee,poo or fart go to one of the four corners.
okay I swim on a team now and I happen to be pretty fast so maybe I can help out….
1 ALWAYS stretch if you don’t you can hurt yourself
2 Wear a swim cap and a full swim suit. It makes you go way faster
3 Eat healthy before swimming
4 Don’t eat right before swimming or right after swimming. Give yourself some time.
5 Try your hardest
6 Try holding your breathe when you have spare time and hold it for as long as you can. Then breathe obviously and then do it again. You can train your lungs to breathe less while swimming.

When you push off the wall GLIDE as much as you can so that you will have to swim less.
