I love swimming, and i’m doing it more now… to loose weight. Is it good at loosing weight, and also does anyone have anything they follow whilst swimming to help them get fit (and thin)???
i am on a high school swim team right now. if you use a pull booie in between your legs, or paddles on your hands, it creates drag which will give you more bang for your buck. ALso i would recomend wearing two swim suits in the water, so its harder to swim,,,thus loosing more weight
Well while swimming you do burn alot of calories but as soon as you get out you dont burn as much because your body is cool most of the time and thus not creating alot of heat to burn the calories.YOu will burn some but there are better things to do..Running be the best to lose weight because you continue to burn calories throughout the day.Do both.
Swimming is one of the best forms of exercising to loose weight and tone up. In fact swimming is better than doing exercise on dry land because the water adds 15% more resistance than land exercises thus making you work harder.
There is less impact on your joints in the water compared to land and the best part of it all your not all sweaty and salty.
This is my swim routine, I swim 20 laps freestyle, starting off slow then picking up the pace, using swim paddles, check what your skill level is to get the appropriate size.
20 laps kick board (just kick your legs while your hands hold on to the board) you can change up the kick styles like doing the breast stroke, butterfly and backstroke kicks.
20 laps of freestyle again going at a moderate/fast pace picking it up to sprinting.
20 laps of pulling yourself with your arms and a booing between your legs.
I finish with 10 to 20 laps, slowing down my pace at the ending of my work out.
My work out is completed in 45 minutes to an hour.
Now you can change up the swimming strokes which will break up the montomy of just doing freestyle. Personally I hate backstroke and breaststroke. My timing is off when I attempt to do butterfly which is what I will try to master in the near future. I like freestyle because its easy and uncomplicated. Everyone once in a while I will do those strokes if I’m up to it.
I would start of with just doing 10 laps of each, if your strong enough try doing 20 laps of each.
I’ve been swimming for many years and have made it to the CIF Playoffs in S. Cali back in the 80s.
k so im on a swim team and i go to practice like five times a week. so out of everything i think having your arms in a tight streamline on your back doing a butterfly kick works you’re abs like crazy.
There are loads of ways to enhance your swimming and make you work harder (to get thin). You can layer suits to increase drag, or swim with a tank top over your suit so that you have to work harder to make the interval. You could also get those legging things that are out these days for drag, too. Fins make your legs work harder, as well as making your kick faster. But you shouldn’t forget to make your arms pull at a normal rate, so you don’t get lazy with your arms and dependent on your legs.
You can use a pull buoy to focus on your pulling, and you can flip and everything with them. Just keep your legs squeezed together so it doesn’t fall out, especially on turns.
If you’re into competitive swimming, try lowering the intervals at practice. That should make you faster AND stronger.
Also, if you want to lose weight and tone muscle, you need to train at least 5 days a week, for two hours at least. One and a half if you’re busy. Don’t forget to stretch so you don’t pull anything.
Good luck getting thinner, hope this helped!
I find using my arms and legs help when swimming
